Description
The *Bike Train* is the perfect mix of scenic train travel and outdoor adventure. Depart from Cumberland on a vintage railcar at 11:30 a.m. and enjoy a relaxing ride through the Allegheny Mountains to Frostburg. When you arrive, your bike will be waiting — safely transported by the Tracks and Yaks team. From there, pedal (or coast!) back down the Great Allegheny Passage, a world-famous rail trail that gently descends 15 miles to Cumberland. Along the way, you’ll pass forest canopies, river crossings, and scenic overlooks with opportunities to stop for photos, snacks, and historic plaques. This self-paced experience is ideal for families, couples, and adventure seekers who want to blend the nostalgia of train travel with the freedom of cycling.
Itinerary
• 11:00 a.m. — Check-in near the C&O Canal Visitor Center, Cumberland Station • 11:30 a.m. — Depart by train for Frostburg, Maryland • 12:30 p.m. — Arrive at Frostburg Depot; pick up your bike or rental • Grab a snack or drink at the depot before heading out • Ride the 15-mile Great Allegheny Passage trail back to Cumberland • Return shuttle assistance available if needed (optional).

$49 with bike rental | $45 if bringing your own bike. Includes train fare, bike shuttle service, and helmet (for rentals).
Food & Drink
Riders can stop in Frostburg for snacks or lunch before descending. Local cafés and trail-friendly options available.
Instructions
Arrive 30 minutes early for check-in. Meet the Tracks and Yaks team at the cul-de-sac beside the C&O Canal Visitor Center (13 Canal Street, Cumberland).
Restrictions
Participants must be comfortable cycling 15 miles on a gravel trail. Children under 10 must ride with an adult.
Transportation
Parking available near Cumberland Station and Frostburg Depot. Shuttle service transports bikes uphill.
